Using the Free Virtual Classroom with Moodle
The Online Virtual Classroom on WiZiQ is a free alternative to expensive web-conferencing software, and has audio and video, chat, whiteboard and multiple document sharing support. This collaboration tool can be used for synchronous online sessions with Moodle. Teachers can connect globally with students using this tool. To use the virtual classroom, Moodle administrators can now download WiZiQ's Live Class modules for Moodle and install these modules in the Moodle installation on their server.
Users can simply activate our "Block." and launch an "Activity" right from within Moodle. How-to video tutorials are available on the downloads page for Moodle here:
http://www.wiziq.com/downloads/moodle/
On Moodle
Activity: http://moodle.org/mod/data/view.php?d=13&rid=1113
Block: http://moodle.org/mod/data/view.php?d=13&rid=1114
The modules have been successfully tested on Apache, PHP and MySQL installations and support Microsoft IIS server installations also.
Highlights of the Virtual Classroom
- It is free, both for teachers, and students.
- It works with Flash and so no downloads for students or teachers whatsoever.
- Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, and .pdf, .swf, .jpeg and .gif files can be uploaded to the Virtual Classroom. Animations are supported in .ppt and .pps presentations.
- Presentations from the public content library on WiZiQ can be imported into the Virtual Classroom for reference.
Designed for Education
We have kept only the educational user in mind while designing and developing the Virtual Classroom. We deliberately offer less, but more useful features to keep things simple.
You can see our latest video on YouTube here, and you can join a live demo session (see upcoming), or view a demo recording (see archives) by Mark Cruthers, an AP History teacher, here.
Opinion
"Yeah, now we can even integrate WiZiQ with Moodle as an 'Activity Module'! This is the one learning tool really missing in Moodle! WiZiQ to the rescue! I love it :)" Zaid at ZaidLearn.
"One product proposed by two of our distance education teachers is a new plug-in/add-in called WiZiQ. The product is a “synchronous distance education system” and allows teachers and students work in a collaborative environment (audio, video, whiteboard, etc.). Tests so far have gone better than ever anticipated!!!" Barry stewart at the Prairie South Moodle Tech Blog.
"It is just amazing. Now I only can hope that my employer chooses Moodle for the school learning environment." Leena on Passionate Teachers at Ning.

I myself am a teacher. I know how helpful media can be in the educational process. But i don't think studying online is such a good idea. I think students should spend less time in front of the computers. It's bad for their eyes and health. I think they should spend more time socializing face to face, see each other in the flesh. But of course, if students and teachers are thousand miles apart THIS is the best way to study.

1. If you havent create a course you will need to do so.
2. Once this is done, you will need to click on the Course Name and under Activites Tab on left hand navigation, you will see WiZiQ icon. Click on it.
3. Log in with your WiZiQ account details.
4. Schedule a class.
5. To launch the same, you will need to go to www.wiziq.com and log in with your details and launch the same.

Dear Satya
The error is generally due to slow bandwidth at your end. I recommend that you close your browser and try accessing the page again.
Thanks

WiZiQ sounds awesome. Thanks for this review; I"m looking forward to checking it out. Hope it remains FREE! Experience tells me that either one of two scenarios always happens with great software. Either: 1) pricing of commercial synchronous web-conferencing software will collapse - OR - WiZiQ will move to a pay (probably subscription) model. Hope its the former and not the latter!

I am a teacher of Organic Chemistry, teaching UG and PG students. Came across the advertisement of your site and naturally am curious about how it functions. Will definitely like to know about it in detail, also the remunerative part. That is, if at all it is so and not honorary.
It would be very kind of you to extend the information.
With best wishes,

Hi Karen,
At the moment we have no plans for Sharepoint 2007

Hi Manoj,
The modules work perfectly now on IIS Moodle installations.
Hi Sydney,
We hope your problem was solved. If you still face issues, kindly contact [email protected] with admin login details of your Moodle installation.
Hi Larry, as in Sydney's case, support requires admin access to your installation to check and fix issues, so you can send the same to [email protected].
Hi Taran,
Moodle works with Linux and WiZiQ's Live Class modules are compatible.

My PC has windows XP, my Moodle is 1.8.2, and I guess the server has the latest versions of Apache, MySQL and PHP.
