Now teachers can expect to get more student leads with the introduction of the new Follow feature. The main advantage of this feature is that teachers not only get more students, but more relevant, serious and high-potential student leads.
Leverage the new Follow feature
It is implied that members who are following you are potential leads. When more members follow you, you would not only gain reputation but also get more relevant students to join your classes or to take your tests/tutorials.
Students or teachers that follow you will be notified via emails when you:- Schedule a public class
- Create a public test
- Upload a public tutorial
How can teachers get more followers?
To take complete advantage of this new feature, we recommend teachers to:
- Conduct more public classes
- Create more public tests
- Upload more public tutorials
- Contact your followers using the LearnerConnect option to personally inform them about your new Public: classes, tests, tutorials, or anything you feel important
- Follow other teachers and build your network
The more public learning objects you create, the more are the chances of your public profile page appearing in top search results on Google and WiZiQ. This way you can expect your business to grow. So, do more activity and get more students.
Build your network
You can build your network by following other members. You could start by visiting your contacts panel:
Teacher Statistics on profile pages
Also, there is a new section, ‘Teacher Statistics’, in the profile page that displays the numbers of followers, members you are following, classes conducted, tests created, tutorials added, recommendations you got, learning requests accepted by you, etc.
Detailed information is available about contacts, followers, members that a teacher is following, potential students, and suggested teachers - in the drop-down list on the ‘My Network’ button when you are logged in.
Important tips:
1) Adding tags to your class, test, and tutorials will help students/teachers in searching, finding, and following you. Tags are important elements for any public learning object, as the search term is compared with the tags first to fetch the results. We recommend 4-5 very specific keywords/tags and it's a good idea not to overdo it too. Also, please select the tags from the auto-fill (a list that drops down as soon as you start typing). Add a tag of your own only if you don't find one in the auto-fill list.
2) Completing your profile information will help students know you better. The more the profile information is, the more are the chances for your profile to be found in searches. Also, we strongly recommend that you upload your profile picture, as we believe that with a picture the profile looks complete.
We have started a discussion in the e-teaching community for this feature. You are most welcome to share your thoughts about this feature. Here's the discussion: Now students and teachers can follow each other on WiZiQ. You can also see how the follow feature will help students.
Important Note: WiZiQ is all set to launch very soon a new dashboard, where students will get feeds and updates of your activity on your public learning objects. So check back on the blog for an update on the release of the new dashboard and other new features associated with it.
This post is really helpful for the teachers. WiZiQ is surely helping us build a strong online network.

As this feature is very new I cannot comment fully on its utility. It does seem to fill a big gap in the community portal. Prior to this feature one had to make a permanent relationship (connect) with a given teacher. Then the teacher would have to decide which students to send class invitations to.
Unfortunately this created a lot of unwanted class invites from teachers I simply wanted to monitor. This also tended to overwhelm casual students with class offerings. This passive form of following will be greatly appreciated by the casual student.
The only problem I have noted thus far is that a new student does not know which way is best to start the relationship (e.g. follow or connect). Hopefully WIZIQ will make the differentiation more intuitive in the future.

Wow, who is that cool guy in the pink shirt? This looks very nice and could help to build community at WIZIQ. I would like WIZIQ to conduct a short class to explain how this fits into the "big picture" and how you think we should promote this feature.
Thanks again for all you guys at Team Wiziq do for us.
